The Beginning:
Before Mickie took his retirement from the government, he had been interested in woodworking of all types. He took a course in carving a very simple bird - and from there an obsession and second career was begun.
Our Business - Our Life
The name of "Acorny Acres" came about when we were building our log home in the bush, and in the autumn the oak trees which surround us began losing their acorns. We don't take ourselves too seriously - hence the name "Acorny".
Most of the birds are carved in basswood and then painted with acrylics with up to 12 layers of very thin coats. The birds are then finished with a matt varnish.
